Autistic Diagnostic Assessment

You will be asked to complete a a questionaire at home, which may include input from family members or partners. (Ritvo Autism Asperger's Diagnostic Scale)

You will then meet with the Assessor and complete a clinical interview and mental health psychometric assessment, along with any further assessments deemed appropriate.

This process will provide you with valuable insight into your emotional wellbeing and sufficient understanding to help you decide whether proceeding with a full autism assessment is appropriate, or whether further mental health assessment or support would be more beneficial.

These initial assessments typically take place over one to two sessions.

Your Assessment Appointments

If you decide to proceed with a full autism assessment, your next appointment will last approximately one and a half hours. This assessment uses the ADOS-2, a gold-standard diagnostic tool approved under National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. It involves a structured series of tasks and activities designed to explore communication, social interaction, and behaviour.
This appointment is conducted face to face at one of our clinics.

Your second appointment involves working with someone who knows you well, such as a parent, carer, or another person who has known you since childhood.

This assessment uses the ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised) and takes approximately two and a half hours to complete. The ADI-R is a structured developmental interview that explores your early development and lifelong experiences, focusing on areas such as:

Social interaction

Communication and language

Patterns of behaviour and interests

To increase accessibility, the ADI-R appointment can take place either in person or online.

Review of the data and report

In line with best practice, your assessor will carefully review and integrate all assessment data to ensure that an accurate and well-considered diagnosis is made.

In some cases, the assessment may conclude that:

The results meet the criteria for a diagnosis of Autism / Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism is not present

Autistic traits are identified, but these do not meet the full diagnostic criteria for autism

Whether autism is identified or not, we will take the time to fully explain the outcome, ensuring you have a clear understanding of the findings.

You will receive a comprehensive written report, including the results of any psychometric assessments, which clearly outlines the conclusions and recommendations.

This documentation can be shared with your school, college, employer, or GP as evidence to help access appropriate support and reasonable adjustments.

You will also be invited to a feedback appointment, where we will discuss the outcome in detail, provide your clinical report, and offer personalised recommendations to support your ongoing needs and wellbeing.
